My Corset Heart

The above is a detail of My Corset Heart.
Inspired by vintage fashion, the Venice carnival and sacred imagery.

Below, the entire image, framed.

Running On Empty

This is a landscape of an abandoned gas station. Isolated and abandoned buildings are inspiring, full of forgotten memories and histories. The textures of worn and crumbling faded facades are so tactile and beautiful!

This is a black Jesus, a more realistic yet fun approach to how Jesus might have looked. He is painted on black velvet.

Father's Day, Dia de la Feria Event, Day of the Dead Art Exhibit

Five of my Day of the Dead inspired works will be in this art exhibition coming up in San Mateo, including Only Her Hairdresser Knows For Sure, (below).  I am a featured artist in this show which promises to have quite a large number of fantastic works by many different artists. A great place to do some shopping and pick up something original for Father's Day...
Dates: June 8th - 16th, 2013
Where: San Mateo County Fair, Fine Arts Galleria Expo Center
Besides the Day of the Dead exhibit there are many other kinds of art on display as well. Check out the other activities planned for the last day, June 16th - including a sugar skull workshop at 3 pm and a dance performance by the Aztec ceremonila dance group - Teokalli at 2 pm.
So grab Dad and come on down for a fun art filled day!

Marriage Equality Exhibition in The OC

Opening up Friday, May 3rd is a huge exhibition and benefit in support of marriage equality.
I created the artwork (above) for the show, titled "The Knot" - mixed media on wood, plus it is framed in a gorgeous antique frame. It is inspired by history, friendships and vintage imagery. After all, gay couples are not a new phenomenon, they just don't need to hide anymore...
This is a great cause and filled with tons of different styles of art - come on down and show your support!

Art With An Agenda

Two Day Opening Reception: Friday May 3rd & Saturday May 4th 2013, 6-11 pm

On View: May 3 – May 25th, 2013

At: The Magoski Arts Colony, 223/225 W. Santa Fe, Fullerton, CA

In 2008, Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in the State of California, passed with a little more than 52% of the vote. Fullerton, combined with our neighbors in the northern most parts of Orange County, however, passed Prop 8 by 63%. It is important that those who aim to monopolize love and marriage understand to whom they are denying a fundamental social institution. In a small way this exhibit hopes to further acceptance and understanding through art which is inspired by the belief that all non-exploitative love is beautiful and valid.
